FAQ

We understand that starting counseling or mental performance training can bring up a lot of questions, and we're here to answer them. Whether you're wondering what to expect from your first session or how we can work together to reach your goals, you'll find helpful answers here. If something’s still on your mind, don't hesitate to reach out—we’d love to connect with you and make sure you have everything you need!

Before We Meet

How do I get started?

Simply reach out through our appointment request form to connect. Once we confirm that we’re a good fit, you’ll receive intake paperwork to complete.

I’ve never been to counseling before. What should I expect?
Your first appointment will be a relaxed, open conversation where we’ll explore your current challenges, goals, and background. You won’t be pressured to dive into anything you're not ready for. Each session is designed to meet you where you’re at.

Do you prescribe any medication?

No, I do not prescribe medication. As a counselor, I focus on providing therapeutic support and strategies for mental wellness. If medication is necessary, I can provide referrals to trusted healthcare providers who can assess and manage that aspect of care.

Cost + Insurance

Do you accept insurance?
Yes, we currently accept most Aetna plans, Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO plans, Blue Cross Blue Choice PPO plans, Cigna/Evernorth PPO plans, UMR PPO plans, and United Healthcare/Optum PPO plans. Once we receive a copy of your insurance card, we confirm benefits and provide an estimated cost based on information retrieved from your insurance provider.

What are out-of-pocket costs for self-pay?
The out-of-pocket self-pay intake appointment is $200 and follow-up appointments are $150 each. These rates also apply for mental performance training services. The out-of-pocket cost for workshops vary depending on needs, please contact us.

What is the late cancellation policy?

A late cancellation or missed visit leaves a hole in the counselor’s day that could have been filled by another client. As such, we require a 24-hour notice for any cancellation or changes to your appointment. Clients who provide less than a 24-hour notice, or miss their appointment, will be charged a $75 cancellation fee.  Note that cancellation fees are an out-of-pocket expense not tied to insurance plans, EAP, etc.

Other Services + Locations

Can I participate in mental performance training if I live outside Illinois?
Yes! Mental performance training is available to all USA residents, and we can work together virtually to help you reach your goals. Please note that this will be out-of-pocket.

Can I receive individual counseling if I live outside of Illinois?

Individual counseling is currently only available to residents of Illinois, as we are only licensed to practice in this state. If you live elsewhere, we can refer you to providers in your area.

Sessions

What can I expect in my first appointment?
During the first appointment, we’ll review your intake paperwork, discuss your goals, and develop a personalized plan to address your challenges. It’s a bit different from your follow-up appointments, as we focus on getting to know you and setting a foundation for our work together.

How often will we meet?
The first 4-5 appointments are typically scheduled weekly to build rapport and a solid foundation. After that, we'll discuss how to proceed depending on your progress and preferences.

What is the typical length of an appointment?
Appointments are typically 53 minutes long. We use the last few minutes to answer any remaining questions, discuss scheduling, or address any additional thoughts before wrapping up.
